Sister Helen Cecelia Dwyer

An oral history of Sister Helen Cecelia Dwyer, a Sister of Charity of Seton Hill from 1919 until 1990. The interview was conducted by Sister Jean Ann Wilburn on May 8, 1982 and July 10, 1984.

Sister Helen Cecelia Dwyer - born Helen Louise Dwyer on February 15, 1902 - entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in December of 1919. She received a bachelor's degree in music from Seton Hill College in 1925 and a master's degree in supervision and education from New York University in 1938. She also studied music and music education at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now known as Carnegie Mellon University), the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and Juilliard. She taught many subjects, including music and choir, world history, religion, and Pennsylvania history. She taught piano at Seton Hill College from 1926-1950. She also taught at Holy Innocents School in Pittsburgh, Immaculate Conception School in Irwin, and Sacred Heart High School in Pittsburgh, among others. Sister Helen Cecelia died on February 24, 1990.
